Mark in Texas History: Volunteer fire department receives historical marker

VIDEO/PHOTOS: The Trinity Volunteer Fire Department is celebrating a major win after receiving a historical marker for the department this month. After a fire destroyed most of Downtown Trinity in the early 1900s, there was a great need for a fire department. On February 14, 1914 the trinity fire department was created.

โ€œIn the last four or five years weโ€™ve seen an increase in calls mainly due to the population increase in our county,โ€ said Fire Chief Keith Johnson. Today the department has two stations and 30 members, all working to provide a service as the department has provided the past 111 years.

The historical marker sits at the main fire station on Elm Street in Trinity. Itโ€™s located right in front of the fire departmentโ€™s museum. Inside the museum is the departmentโ€™s first truck, a 1915 Model T Hose Wagon, 1939 pumper truck, and a 1949 pumper truck.
