Maine fire department celebrates its 100th anniversary

VIDEO: The Hampden Fire Department is celebrating a milestone. The department has been in operation for 100 years and on Monday night the town council honored the department for its many years of service. Back in 1925, the Hampden Fire Department was formed. Deputy Fire Chief Jason Lundstrom said that first fire station is where Hampden Hardware and Scissor Excitement exists today on Western Avenue.

“The fire service is built on tradition and history and I think it’s really important to honor that,” said Lundstrom. The fire station eventually relocated to the Main Road in Hampden. On Monday night, a group of former firefighters, police and others gathered at the fire station’s current location inside the Hampden Public Safety building to look back at where it all began. Rodney Stanhope was there. He served as a Hampden firefighter from 1957 to 1962.
