Laurel hosts event to honor fallen firefighters and support memorial park

VIDEO: Today and tomorrow, the community will gather in Laurel for the annual Montana State Firefighter Memorial fundraiser. The event aims to support the upkeep and improvement of the memorial park that honors Montana’s fallen firefighters. The Montana State Firefighter Memorial, located next to the Laurel fire station, has been a significant site since its completion in 2018. It took nearly two decades of planning, fundraising, construction, and landscaping to bring the memorial to life. Event organizer Shawna Hopper highlighted the importance of the memorial.

“Montana having most of the fire departments being volunteer world department, each place, an incident happens in their community honors their individuals in their own community, but itโ€™s nice to have a place where families can come with other firefighters people from across the country can honor and take a look at those people that have dedicated their lives and you know honor them the best way we can,” she said. The fundraiser will feature live music, a 5K and kids fun run, food trucks, and more. Funds raised will help with park maintenance and cover travel and lodging expenses for families of those being honored.
