A hard-to-reach fire burned for hours Sunday morning near the railroad tracks east of I-435, north of Wilson Road, and south of the Blue River. KCFD reported no danger to any persons or the railroad tracks themselves, but as a precaution, Evergy was forced to shut down power to some lines in the area just after 1 a.m. November 16.
Being that railroad ties were a blaze, nowhere near a city street, it was an active scene for an extended period of time due to the material burning, the size of the pile, and the accessibility issues for KCFD companies in getting to the scene. There are no hydrants in the area, so water was shuttled in by those companies, which added to the already time-consuming process. The fire was extinguished around 7:30 a.m.
