70 dogs rescued after fire at dog daycare in Imperial

VIDEO: A fire at a dog daycare in Jefferson County forced firefighters, employees and nearby residents to take action. Fire officials said the fire broke out around 2:45 p.m. Tuesday at A Howlinโ€™ Good Time dog daycare near Interstate 55 in Imperial, Missouri. They said it appears to have started in the buildingโ€™s attic, but the cause is still under investigation.

The Rock Fire Protection District responded to the fire and was aided by seven other departments. In all, more than 30 firefighters from the eight departments responded. Within 30 minutes of the fire call coming in, fire officials evacuated the building, and it partially collapsed. Thankfully, no one was injured, and all 70 dogs were rescued. Workers and neighbors assisted before firefighters got on the scene.

Nearby establishments, including the Elks Lodge, housed dozens of dogs until their owners could come to retrieve them. Neighbors also responded to a call for dog leashes, donating hundreds of them to help the daycare in its time of need. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
