Two people died in a house fire in Lawrence County. The Pierce City Fire District responded Saturday, Oct. 25, around 8:39 p.m., to a possible structure fire at the corner of Myrtle and Pierce streets.
Lawrence County dispatchers soon updated the information, confirming a working house fire with people possibly trapped inside. Upon arrival, crews discovered a heavily involved house fire. Law enforcement confirmed at least one person was inside. Firefighters conducted an extensive search but were unable to locate anyone due to heavy fire and the homeโs deteriorating conditions.
Additional crews arrived and extinguished the fire. During a subsequent search operation, firefighters found two people dead inside the residence. The Missouri State Fire Marshalโs Office is investigating the incident. Authorities transported the bodies for forensic identification and autopsy. No firefighters sustained injuries during the incident.
