A good friend, loving husband, and great neighbor โ those are just some of the titles those close to Mayor Mike Smith are remembering him by. Friends and family members took turns sharing stories and reliving memories during a fire station dedication that made the two-term mayor who he was.
โHe put a good example for everyone,โ one man said at the podium. โMike was my friend. He never lied to me, never,โ a woman added. Mayor Jay Trapani issued a proclamation for Smithโs dedication to the quality of life for all residents. Smith made a life out of public service. For nearly 40 years, he took on many roles, and his family and friends say that in each of them, he made a lasting impact.
โThat was like my dad to me. Heโs never once raised his voice at me. Anybody that heโs ever talked to โ heโs just the greatest man Iโve ever met in my life,” Bradley Hart, Smithโs grandson said.
Smithโs name is now on the cityโs fire station on Coleman Avenue, spreading a reminder of his touch on the city.
