Vicksburg Fire Department responds to fire in silo at casket company

A fire broke out at the Batesville Casket Company in Vicksburg Sunday evening. The Vicksburg Fire Department responded to reports of a fire in silo #2 at the facility at approximately 7:10 p.m.

According to VFD Fire Chief Harry โ€œTreyโ€ Martin, the flames were contained to a section of that one silo, and the sprinkler system activated, preventing the fire from spreading further.

When they arrived on the scene, firefighters extinguished the rest of the flames. Martin said no injuries were reported in the incident. The fire chief also added that the extent of the damage is โ€œhard to evaluateโ€ and can not be determined until Monday morning.
