Andy Frederick serves as a volunteer fire fighter with Sharon Fire & Rescue in Jones County. He also is a tow truck driver for Advanced Towing & Recovery, LLC, in Laurel. Fredrick put both skill sets to work Wednesday to help save an elderly man who had been pinned under an overturned lawn mower for some 90 minutes. The Jones County Sheriffโs Department said JCSD Sgt. Brandon Gregory and Frederick arrived almost simultaneously around noon Wednesday on Gus Townsend Road off of Sharon Road.
At the scene, the pair discovered an elderly man had been injured and then trapped beneath a zero-turn lawnmower that had flipped into a ditch. First responders credited an adult male passerby with discovering the rollover accident on lightly-traveled Gus Townsend Road.
Gregory, Frederick and another Sharon F&R firefighter, Skyler Reeves, were able to use the winch cable on the wrecker and lift the lawnmower off the victim. JCSD said the injured man was transported by EMServ Ambulance Service to South Central Regional Medical Center for treatment of multiple injuries. Also helping at the scene were Sharon firefighters/emergency medical responders Jamie and Kristi Miller along with JCSD Cpl. Jaroneโ Walker and JCSD Deputy Dalton Ainsworth.
