Longtime fire safety educator Ed Johnson retires from St. Peter Fire

For Ed Johnson, fighting fires starts before he enters a burning building. During his 19-year career on the St. Peter Fire Department, Johnson has been guided by the philosophy that the best way to fight a fire is to prevent one from beginning in the first place.

Thatโ€™s why Johnson has spent his spent almost two decades teaching St. Peterโ€™s youth the importance of fire safety. Every year, Johnson addresses as many as 400 to 500 kids on how to prevent fires from starting and how to stay safe if a fire does breakout in their home or school โ€” teaching them everything from how to stop, drop and roll, to what to do if they smell smoke, to what to expect if a firefighter does come to rescue them.
