Firefighter hospitalized after fire at former bar in Minneapolis

VIDEO: A firefighter was hospitalized after a fire at the former bar and music venue Whiskey Junction in Minneapolis early Wednesday. Minneapolis fire officials say the flames started around 12:30 a.m. at the building at 901 Cedar Avenue S., next to music venue The Cabooze. By the time engines arrived, smoke and fire were showing from the exterior of the building and flames had jumped to the interior and roof.

Fire crews forced entry to the building so they could conduct searches and check for fire extension. A second alarm was quickly called due to the fire quickly spreading. Firefighters on aerial ladders indicated that the roof of the bar was unstable. Crews were eventually able to extinguish the fire, but not before the structure was significantly damaged. One firefighter was transported to the hospital and treated for overexertion. No one else was injured. Minneapolis fire investigators are on the scene and will attempt to determine a cause.
