A family in Savage is shaken but alive after fire tore through their home Sunday night. Savage fire rigs were dispatched to the intersection of 133rd Street and Vernon Avenue shortly before 8:30 p.m. on reports of a structure fire. When crews arrived, they found an active fire inside the single-family home.
Firefighters from Savage were quickly joined by crews from Burnsville, Prior Lake, Shakopee, Bloomington and the Shakopee Mdewakanton Sioux Community. They were able to bring the fire under control, but not before the home had suffered significant damage. Assistant Chief/Fire Marshal John Burrow tells KARE 11 the fire burned areas of the living space and then made its way up to the attic. He says 34 firefighters were on scene at the height of activity. Fortunately, the family was able to escape the flames and no one was injured.
