After 30 Years West Duluth’s Fire Station 10 Gets New Engine

VIDEO: Thirty years ago, a grunge band named Nirvana was changing music with their chart-topping album Nevermind. Ukraine was voting for its independence from the Soviet Union. And in West Duluth, Fire Station 10 received its last new fire engine. That is, until now.

This week, the Duluth Fire Department unveiled a brand-new fire engine for Station 10, marking a major milestone for the city’s western district. “Feelings of we don’t want to get too excited until we know it’s really coming,” said Duluth Fire Chief Shawn Krizaj, reflecting on the long-anticipated upgrade. At a ceremonial unveiling, city leaders and firefighters gave the engine a symbolic push into service, celebrating its arrival as a long-overdue investment in public safety. Unlike previous trucks, which were often hand-me-downs from other stations, this one is brand-new, custom-built to meet the specific needs of the community. “I’ve been here for over 27 years, and I think the call volume out here has about tripled,” said Krizaj, emphasizing the growing demands placed on Station 10.
