Among local remembrance efforts for the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks in New York City, the Texas Township Fire Department hosted a blood drive on the day of remembrance Thursday.
From 9:30 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., donors could stop by the fire department to make a donation. Participating blood donors received t-shirts in honor of fallen first responders on 9/11. “The further we get away from 2001, the more important it is to make sure that we are able to look back and remember,” Texas Township Fire Department Interim Fire Chief Jeff Hawke said. “You see all the social media postings and they all mostly say ‘never forget.’ So, we want to make sure that we don’t forget what happened, that it’s still relevant.”
