The Oshtemo Township Fire Department is mourning the loss of firefighter Charlie Sullivan, who died Wednesday morning in a motorcycle crash in Kalamazoo. In a statement Wednesday, Fire Chief Gregory McComb called Sullivan “a valued member of our fire department family and a dedicated public servant who served the residents of Oshtemo Township with pride and compassion.”
The department said Sullivan’s “commitment to helping others, both in and out of uniform, exemplified the very best of what it means to be a firefighter.” The Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety is currently investigating the crash, which occurred on Parkview Avenue around 12:09 a.m. Wednesday morning.
Chief McComb said the department is providing peer support and chaplain resources for firefighters as they grieve together. โOur hearts are with Charlieโs family, friends, and fellow firefighters during this incredibly difficult time,โ the statement read.
