Copper Country fire departments came together to prove which department is the best. Saturday marked the 71st annual Copper Country Firefighters Tournament. This year, the Laurium Fire Department hosted. The day includes races, a parade, and then a Firefighters Ball.
Once a year, this time-honored tradition brings the 34 departments in the Copper Country Volunteer Firefighters Association together to compete. Thirteen of those departments were participating in the races. The Association was founded to promote togetherness in Copper Country departments. Dan Zubiena, Laurium fire chief, says the tournament is an opportunity to see each other in a more fun setting.
