Casnovia Township Fire Department Deputy Chief Dies

VIDEO: A West Michigan first responder has died, authorities say. Sam Deems, 25, was a paramedic supervisor with Rockford Ambulance and deputy chief of the Casnovia Township Fire Department.

Authorities confirmed that Deems died in a Rockford-area crash Tuesday morning at 13 Mile Road and Courtland Drive. Two personal vehicles crashed at the intersection, and both drivers died, according to the Kent County Sheriffโ€™s Office. โ€œSam was a firefighter like no other. He served with passion, heart, and an unwavering commitment to this community. He had a deep love for saving lives and making a difference wherever he could. Sam truly embodied the spirit of service,โ€ the Casnovia Township Fire Department wrote in a social media post.
