VIDEO: A person died after a house fire in Battle Creek on Saturday morning, according to firefighters. It happened around 8:40 a.m. on Grand Circle Avenue, near Spring Street. The Battle Creek Fire Department says that it received a call from a neighbor reporting the fire and informing officials that people may have been trapped inside the home.
Multiple crews arrived shortly after and discovered active flames near the back of the residence that were extending into the attic, the fire department says. A person was located in the home within minutes and removed by firefighters. First responders made life saving efforts on the person, but they died at the scene, according to BCFD. Their name was not immediately released. The fire department says two dogs also died in the fire. The cause of the fire is still being investigated and it is not known if the home had smoke alarms that were working, BCFD said.
