VIDEO: The Saginaw Fire Department recently hosted nine students from the Bay City Fire Academy for a joint training session, aiming to provide real-world experience in a safe and controlled environment. Academy students from the Bay City Fire Department benefited from hands-on training through a partnership with the Saginaw Fire Department.
Michael Campbell, Saginaw’s Training and Safety Officer, explained that this event is essential for academy recruits to earn their certification. “We light it on fire so that they can get experience with the heat they are going to experience as well as see the thermodynamics that come with fire,” Campbell said. The training took place at Saginaw’s training facility, which was completed in 2022.
Saginaw Fire Chief Brandon Hausbeck emphasized the importance of having a local place to train. “This type of training, in a controlled environment, makes it a lot safer. It gives everyone the experience they need in order to understand what they are going into when a structure fire happens,” Campbell said.
