Three cats are dead after an apartment fire in Grand Rapids after midnight on Thursday, according to the Grand Rapids Fire Department (GRFD). Around 12:20 a.m., crews responded to an apartment complex in the 2400 block of Normandy Drive after a report of burnt food in the area of LaBelle Street and Jefferson Avenue.
When firefighters arrived, they found heavy smoke on the second floor of an apartment building. Three GRFD engines found and extinguished the fire in a second-floor kitchen.
Additional crews evacuated residents from the first and second floors, conducted searches and ventilated the building. No residents or firefighters were hurt.
