Brookline Firefighter Retires After Nearly 20 Years

The fire department celebrated the retirement of Joe Mandra recently after two decades of service.

Mandra joined the department in February of 2006, first assigned to Group 4 of Station 5 on Lowell Street. He became a certified EMT in 2009 in order to contribute even further to the life-saving efforts of his job. The father of two was known for dedicating the majority of his time to his work, often working 24-hour shifts with his fellow Station 5 firefighters.

โ€œThose who worked with Joe remarked that he was a really good firefighter with a great sense of humor around the fire station,โ€ the department said in a statement.
