VIDEO: A large fire in Adams forced two nearby schools to evacuate and cancel classes for the day. The Berkshire Eagle states that the fire happened on Harmony Street at the former MacDermid Graphic Arts factory at around 7:30 Wednesday morning, less than a mile from Hoosac Valley Elementary School and Berkshire Arts and Technology Charter Public School. Both schools were evacuated and students were brought to safer locations. An air quality advisory was issued due to the smoke from the fire. There were no reported injuries and the cause of the fire is unknown at this time. โThis was an old mill. This at one time had some really nasty chemicals in it. So you donโt know whatโs still lingering in there on the floors and the walls so there were some concerns about that,โ said Chief John Pansecchi of the Adams Fire Department. The chief also added that the building was already partially collapsed, so that made getting inside their biggest challenge.
