Ocean Pines will construct new south fire station

A referendum on the new South Fire Station has passed, clearing the way for construction to begin later this year. Fire officials have been requesting a new facility after dealing with roof leaks, a lack of storage space and inadequate ventilation for exhaust fumes. The new building is expected to be 15,000 square feet and will include Americans with Disabilities Act-compliant parking spaces and a firefighter memorial. Ocean Pines Fire Department President Joe Enste said the community made the project possible. โ€œWe want to say thank you to our community members. This whole project wouldnโ€™t be at this point without their support. I know there have been people asking questions and a lot of people with great dialogue, and we thank everyone for engaging with us,โ€ he said. Construction is expected to begin in September or October.
