Voters in Augusta approved a $5.4 million bond that will go towards upgrades at the Augusta Fire Department and the Augusta Civic Center as well as street and sidewalk improvements.
The vote was 3,409 to 1,543. Part of the $5.4-million bond issue will go toward equipment upgrades at the Augusta Fire Department, including the refurbishment of a more than 30-year-old engine truck.
The bond will also pay for a new chassis and engine for an EMS truck, which is less than half the price of a new one.
A big part of the bond money will also go to improvements and upgrades at the 51-year-old Augusta Civic Center. The remainder of the bond would pay for street and sidewalk improvements.
