Firefighters from the Baton Rouge Fire Department were called to the downtown retirement community located at 655 North St. at 8:30 p.m. on Wednesday, April 30. Firefighters found that the sprinkler system had already extinguished a fire in one of the apartments. The sprinkler system reportedly caused significant flooding on the first and second floors. As a result, 16 residents were displaced, and the Red Cross was contacted to provide assistance. Firefighters said the fire was caused by a pot left unattended on the stove.
