A fire tore through a Kenner strip mall Monday morning, impacting several businesses. Kenner firefighters rushed to the J and G Driver’s Ed School on Florida Avenue, where smoke and charred debris were seen throughout the building. “Who knows what is going to happen to my business? I mean, I started here when I was in my 30s, and I’m 72 right now,” said the owner of the driving school.
Next door, State Rep. Joe Stagni was practicing with a patient at his chiropractor clinic when the building filled with smoke within 45 seconds.
“We didn’t have much time, but I am extremely thankful our Kenner firefighters because they saved the building,” Stagni said. The owner of the driving school believes the fire began as an electrical issue, but the investigation is ongoing.
