London Deputy Fire Chief Dies at 85

VIDEO: The London Fire Departmentโ€™s deputy fire chief died at 85 years old. Wilson Rawlings began volunteering with the department at 15, where he eventually served as the chief and deputy chief of the London Fire Department, according to London Mayor Randall Weddle. In a Facebook post, Weddle said Rawlings helped create the London-Laurel County Rescue Squad, an organization he said has saved countless lives.

Rawlingโ€™s procession was held Thursday, Nov. 27, and Weddle ordered all flags in London to half-staff until Rawlings is laid to rest. โ€œDeputy Chief Rawlings gave nearly every day of his life to protecting this city, mentoring generations of firefighters, and building the strong public-safety foundation we stand on today.โ€ Weddleโ€™s post said. โ€œHis impact is woven into the very fabric of London.โ€
