Waterloo Fire Rescue had a busy morning as crews responded to two separate fires within hours. Neighbors played a crucial role in one of these incidents, helping to save lives.
One person is hospitalized after being trapped in a house fire that started just before 8:30 a.m. on Belleview Road. Officials said two people were home at the time. While one person escaped unharmed, the other was taken to the emergency room for further evaluation.
Firefighters credited neighbors for their quick action in alerting the residents and helping them escape in time.
“They were asleep, and the neighbors actually came over and knocked on the door to alert them of the fire,” said Kevin Lee, Battalion Chief at Waterloo Fire Rescue. “They had no idea what was going on.”
