Five cats were rescued in a West Des Moines apartment fire late Sunday night that also displaced residents from four apartment units. West Des Moines Fire Department was dispatched to 534 S. 19th St. around 11:15 p.m. Sunday. West Des Moines police assisted in evacuating the residence while crews battled the fire.
Four apartment units were affected and the residents have been displaced. According to the WDMFD, no injuries were reported and the cause of the fire is under investigation. Initial damage estimates are $60,000, officials say.
