A commercial building was fully engulfed in flames Monday night, fueled by chemicals used for furniture restoration. A patrol sergeant with the Polk County Sheriff’s Office was the first to call in the fire located at 680 NE 46th Place, authorities said. The Saylor Township Fire Department said it was dispatched to the fire shortly after 9 p.m., and on arrival, found the building “fully involved.”
Since the business was closed for the day, officials believe no one was inside when the fire began. Saylor Township Fire said that although its crews remained on site until after midnight, the blaze was well under control after around two hours. Lt. Mark Chance of the Polk County Sheriff’s Office told Local 5 that area evacuation due to hazardous fumes was not considered due to how quickly fire crews were able to knock flames down. The cause of the fire is currently under investigation.
