The cause of a Davenport house fire remained under investigation Thursday, according to a news release from the Davenport Fire Department. About 5 a.m. Thursday, crews responded to the 5900 block of Woodland Avenue for a structure fire. There were three engines, two ladder trucks, an auto-aid ladder truck from Bettendorf, and
one district chief for an initial response of 25 personnel.
The occupants were alerted by smoke alarms and reported smoke coming from the basement.
Firefighters found heavy smoke in the basement and reported that all of the occupants and pets were outside. The fire was located and confined to the basement, but the rest of the house sustained smoke damage.
Firefighters were on the scene for more than an hour to ventilate the house and investigate the origin and cause of the fire. No injuries were reported. MidAmerican Energy assisted with controlling the utilities.
โThe fire marshal would like to remind the community of how important working smoke detectors are within your home,โ the release says. โPlease contact the Davenport Fire Department at 563-326-7910 and ask about our free smoke detector program.โ
