VIDEO: The Terre Haute Fire Department responded to two structure fires Saturday night and early Sunday morning, according to Captain Nick Arnold. At 1:05 a.m., Sunday morning, the Terre Haute Fire Department was dispatched to a non-occupied residential structure at 712 South Center Street.
Upon arrival, heavy smoke and flames were showing through the roof of the building, said Arnold. Multiple sections of the structure collapsed during firefighting operations. At this time, Arnold said the cause of the fire is still under investigation. Due to the fire, houses north and south of the structure were damaged, leading to the residents of the north house being displaced. Residents in the house to the south were able to stay. According to Arnold, after the fire was put out, the City of Terre Haute Wastewater Division was called out to demo the remaining sections of the structure that were still standing, due to them being a collapse hazard.
