The Springfield Fire Department responded to an apartment fire Thursday afternoon. At approximately 1:50 p.m., the Springfield Fire Department was dispatched for the report of an apartment complex fire in the 2200 block of E Cook St. Springfield Fire Chief Ed Canny told WCIA that the department arrived on-scene minutes later and saw heavy smoke coming from an apartment unit. Units pulled a handline to put out the working fire. The fire was under control within 15 minutes and was able to be contained to just one apartment unit.
A unit next door did sustain light smoke damage, however. Additionally, no injuries were reported on scene. City Water, Light, and Power (CWLP) was on scene-to check on electrical utilities and the Springfield Police Department also helped conduct traffic in the area. The fire is currently under investigation by the Springfield Fire Departmentโs Investigation Agency. At this time, there is not yet an estimate on the cost of the damages. There is no further information at this time.
