Springfield Fire Department responds to apartment fire

The Springfield Fire Department responded to an apartment fire Thursday afternoon. At approximately 1:50 p.m., the Springfield Fire Department was dispatched for the report of an apartment complex fire in the 2200 block of E Cook St. Springfield Fire Chief Ed Canny told WCIA that the department arrived on-scene minutes later and saw heavy smoke coming from an apartment unit. Units pulled a handline to put out the working fire. The fire was under control within 15 minutes and was able to be contained to just one apartment unit.

A unit next door did sustain light smoke damage, however. Additionally, no injuries were reported on scene. City Water, Light, and Power (CWLP) was on scene-to check on electrical utilities and the Springfield Police Department also helped conduct traffic in the area. The fire is currently under investigation by the Springfield Fire Departmentโ€™s Investigation Agency. At this time, there is not yet an estimate on the cost of the damages. There is no further information at this time.
