VIDEO/PHOTOS: The Quincy Fire Department has secured a FEMA grant for $235,562.56, to purchase a new fire safety trailer. The departments old trailer, which will be sold to help pay the 5% match required by the grant, is 25 years old, and outdated in terms of available tech.
The new trailer will be the same size, but will be jam packed full of the newest tech. That includes better smoke and fire simulation, with heating elements in the doors and ceiling, to emulate the dangerous heat that comes from a real fire.
The rooms are also more realistic than on the current trailer, with better furnishings and window sills that are off the ground. In the kitchen, the garbage and stoves emulate real fire, and the microwave sparks.
