One person hospitalized in Central Peoria nursing facility fire

A pile of clothes and part of a bed caught on fire in a Peoria nursing facility, sending one person to the hospital. The Peoria Fire Department was called to the 3000 block of West Richwoods at 3:48 a.m. on Monday, May 19, for a fire alarm activation, said Battalion Chief Stephen Rada. When firefighters arrived, they found a pile of clothes and part of a bed were burned inside one of the nursing facilities rooms, he said. Firefighters put out the fire, then used a large fan to ventilate the hallway and bedroom of smoke, Rada said. One person was taken to the hospital for evaluation. No cause of the fire was given, and the incident is still under investigation, he said. Rada said damages are estimated at $500.
