Normal Fire Department thanked for saving life after crash

VIDEO: A man thanked first responders at the Normal Fire Department on Monday for saving his life after a crash last month. Fire crews responded to a vehicle that crashed into a building near East College Avenue and North Orr Drive on Oct. 11, a Normal Fire Facebook post said.

When fire crews arrived, they found the driver was unresponsive and determined he was in cardiac arrest. Firefighters removed him from the vehicle and began CPR and used an AED to help him regain his pulse before transporting him to a hospital for treatment.

The man eventually had triple bypass surgery and is recovering well, the post said. The man and his wife came to the fire station to thank both fire crews and the broader first responder community.
