Multiple fire crews responded to a house fire on Sherwin Drive in Urbana just after 5 p.m. on Tuesday. On scene, firefighters saw smoke coming from the back of the house. They described the fire inside the home as “significant.
The fire eventually spread to the roof, and if the flames weren’t hot enough, the near triple digit temperatures presented first responders with another challenge. “We had to extensively start rotating crews because of the heat,” Eddie Bain, Public Information Officer with the Savoy Fire Department, said. “So, we have support from Tolono, Bondville and Edge-Scott Fire Departments at the same time here helping just to rotate people in and out because of the heat.”
