Georgetown House Destroyed by Fire

VIDEO: No one is hurt after a Georgetown house was destroyed by a fire over the weekend. The fire happened at 305 Garfield Street early Saturday morning. Captain Darrell Starwalt, Georgetown Fire Protection District, said firefighters were dispatched at 12:30 a.m. and they remained on the scene for four hours.

The fire protection district also posted details of the fire on Facebook. โ€œThe fire was brought under control fairly quickly with the help of several fire departments that assisted us with this fire,โ€ officials wrote. โ€œThere were 42 various crew members on the scene, including EMS, Vermilion County Deputies, Georgetown Police, the City of Georgetown and Ameren. We would like to sincerely thank the following departments for the help with this fire.โ€

Assisting fire agencies included the Westville Fire Protection District, Tilton Fire Department, Catlin Fire Protection District, Sidell Fire Department, Ridge Farm Fire Department, Lynch Fire Department and Chrisman Fire Department.

Despite the quick response and quick actions in bringing the fire under control, the house was deemed a total loss. Starwalt said no one was living in the home at the time, and as a result, no injuries were reported.

The cause of the fire is still unknown. โ€œWeโ€™re just waiting on the fire investigators to be there Tuesday, and weโ€™ll be able to determine more of what happened,โ€ Starwalt said.
