The Huntley Fire Protection District and Algonquin Police Department responded around 6:45 p.m. Monday to the 500 block of Tenby Way in Algonquin for a report of a garbage can on fire.
Huntley Fire Protection District Battalion Chief Brian Harders said the call was quickly upgraded to a structure fire response while crews were responding. A 911 caller reported the entire back of the house was on fire and an occupant was still inside the home. Firefighters arrived on the scene four minutes later and found smoke and flames coming from the rear of an attached garage of a two-story residence. Fire crews quickly deployed a hose line and extinguished the fire before it could extend into the living area, Harders said.
