Firefighter among 4 injured in 2 separate fires in Orland Park, officials say

A firefighter and three other people were injured in two separate fires Friday night in the south suburbs. Both blazes broke out in Orland Park, fire department officials said.

The first fire was reported around 8:12 p.m. at an apartment building in the 7400 block of Sycamore Court, the Orland Fire Protection District said. Two apartment residents were treated for injuries at the scene, officials said. A firefighter was taken to a local hospital for heat exhaustion and has since been released. Later that evening, Orland Fire Protection District firefighters responded to a home fire around 11:37 p.m. in the 15300 block of St. James Drive.

A resident was treated for minor injuries and was not taken to a hospital. No other injuries were reported. “The causes of both fires are under investigation, but firefighters responded quickly to ensure the safety of residents in and around the two locations, which occurred several hours apart,” Interim Chief John Purtill said in a news release.
