Fire marshal to investigate large fire at hotel in Ullin

VIDEO/PHOTOS: Crews from multiple fire departments were called to a large fire in Ullin on Monday night, May 26. They were called shortly before 10 p.m. to the Americaโ€™s Best Inn, formally known as Cheekwook Inn, just off of Interstate 57. Photos from the scene show flames coming out of the roof of the building and out of the windows of the hotel rooms. According to the leaders at Ullin Village Hall, the building was fully engulfed by 10:30 p.m.

The Ullin Fire Department reports crews from 11 area fire departments helped battle the fire. The cause of the fire is unknown. According to village hall leaders, the building is considered a total loss and the State Fire Marshal has been called in to investigate. Village leaders said the hotel was not currently in use and no injuries have been reported. Firefighters from Pulaski, Mound City, Tamms, Dongola, Grand Chain, Karnak, Anna, Jonesboro, Horseshoe Lake, Olmsted and Mounds helped battle the fire.
