Dog dies in Sterling house fire

A news release from the Sterling Fire Department says dispatchers received a 911 call from a homeowner on November 18 at about 1:46 a.m. The caller reported that his house was on fire in the 900 block of Locust Street.

The Sterling Fire Department responded, with automatic aid from Rock Falls Fire Department, CGH EMS and Sterling Police Department. A Full Still response of Dixon Rural Fire Protection District and Milledgeville Fire Protection District were also dispatched after the automatic aid dispatch.

Sterling Police officers arrived and reported flames were visible from the side of the home. The homeowner said everyone was out of the house.

He said he had breathed some smoke while exiting the home. The first ambulance on the scene treated the owner and transported him to CGH for smoke inhalation and precautions. Other CGH EMS ambulances and Advanced EMS stood by for the duration of the call.
