City of Champaign appoints Tyler Funk as interim fire chief

The City of Champaign has announced the appointment of Tyler Funk as the Interim Fire Chief, effective July 14. Funk, who retired in 2023 after a 26-year career with the Champaign Fire Department, will step into the role following the retirement of Chief Andy Quarnstrom.

“I want to extend my deepest gratitude and thank Tyler for agreeing to come out of retirement to serve as Champaignโ€™s Interim Fire Chief,” said Champaign City Manager Joan Walls. “Tyler is a well-respected and trusted leader who is very familiar with the operations, services, and personnel at the Champaign Fire Department. I have the utmost confidence in his ability to lead the department and thank him for serving the City and our residents in this interim role.” Funk expressed his appreciation for the opportunity to lead the department during this transitional period.
