Candle Caused House Fire in South Peoria

One person was hospitalized after a house fire early Saturday morning. Crews with the Peoria Fire Department were called at 7:31 a.m. on Nov. 22 to the 2700 block of West Wyoming Street to a report of a structure fire, Battalion Chief Josh Martin says. When firefighters arrived, they found fire and smoke coming from the front of the 1.5-story house, he said.

The fire was put out within five minutes and no one was found inside when firefighters searched through the home, Martin said. He said that a department arson investigator determined the fire was accidental and caused by a candle.

The fire caused an estimated $10,000 in damage, and one person who lived there was hospitalized for smoke inhalation, Martin said. No further information was made available.
