The Marengo Fire & Rescue Districts awarded four Life Saving Awards during a ceremony on Wednesday. The firefighters were recognized for their quick actions during a medical emergency on March 28, according to a news release from the fire district.
On that date, they were called to a home for a report of a 72-year-old man, who was experiencing chest pain. When they arrived at his residence, he was alert and talking. Moments later, he said he felt like he was going to pass out and suddenly went into cardiac arrest, fire officials said. Crews moved him to the ground and began CPR. A defibrillator was used to deliver a life-saving shock to his heart. John’s condition stabilized after he was provided oxygen and IV access and he was then transported to a local hospital for further treatment.
