PHOTOS: Salmon-Challis National Forest is responding to two fires located near the Montana-Idaho state line. The McConn Fire was burning 1/10 of an acre, 13 miles northwest of North Fork, in the 2012 Mustang Fire scar. The area is reported to have extreme snag hazards. A helicopter performed bucket drops on Wednesday. Firefighters were anticipated to respond after a cold front passed. The Blacktail Fire is burning five acres 18 miles north of Salmon in dead and down fir and grass. Six firefighters are on scene, and a Type 1 crew was expected to arrive on Wednesday. Another Type 1 crew was on order for the fire, which is burning at 8,500 feet in elevation. A helicopter performed bucket drops on Wednesday, and single engine air tankers were expected to arrive late Wednesday morning as well.
