Boise family displaced after deck fire spreads

A family was displaced Sunday morning after a fire that started on their backyard deck spread to their home in west Boise. Boise Fire Department (BFD) crews responded to the 13000 block of W. Paint Street on Aug. 10 around 6:34 a.m. after receiving reports of a structure fire. Firefighters arrived to find flames that had begun on the home’s rear deck had extended to the wood siding and into the attic space above. While waiting for the fire department to arrive, several neighbors used garden hoses in an attempt to help extinguish the flames. The family became aware of the fire when it reached the attic and created loud noises that alerted them.

The department said that all of the residents evacuated safely through the front door as smoke alarms activated throughout the home. No injuries were reported. “Fire crews worked aggressively to contain the fire, initiating fire attack first on the back side of the home before adding a second line of attack from the front,” BFD stated. Despite firefighters’ efforts, the home sustained severe damage, and the family has been displaced. The Local 149 Burnout Fund is providing assistance to the displaced residents. The cause of the fire remains under investigation by the Boise Fire Department.
