Arson charge follows standoff as Boise man surrenders after setting small fire

According to a recent news release, Boise Police responded to the 700 block of E. Parkway Ct. On Nov. 19, 2025, at approximately 4:20 p.m. regarding a report of a person in crisis. The individual barricaded himself inside a residence and was armed with a knife. Officers arrived and confirmed all other occupants were safely out of the house. The release says the home’s fire alarms began sounding while officers were developing a safety plan with the other residents, and smoke became visible inside the residence. Officers remained on scene and continued attempting to contact the suspect, identified as 45-year-old Sharif Bari.

The Boise Police Crisis Negotiation Team also responded and attempted to establish communication with him. Nearby neighbors were also asked to evacuate Over the next two hours, as negotiations continued, officers observed smoke persist inside the house. Bari eventually surrendered and was safely taken into custody at approximately 6:37 p.m. Boise Fire and Boise Police located a small fire inside the home, which was extinguished.
