Honolulu Fire Department classifies fire at Sheridan Park Playground as incendiary; $85K+ damages

VIDEO/PHOTOS: The Honolulu Police Department (HPD) is asking for the publicโ€™s help for information about a fire that was reported at a community park. On Monday morning at approximately 8:45 a.m., HPD officers were alerted by the public that a fire had started at Sheridan Park Playground. Upon arrival there was play equipment that was seen burning. The Honolulu Fire Department (HFD) responded to the scene and subsequently contained the fire at 8:55 a.m. The fire was fully extinguished by 8:56 a.m. Firefighters believe that damage estimate is between $85,000 to $150,000. HFD Investigators also classified the cause of the fire as incendiary, meaning the fire was deliberately set. Island News Reporter Kimber Collins visited the scene and spoke with witnesses and city officials as the investigation unfolds.
