Valdosta fire chief to retire after 30 years of service with VFD

Valdostaโ€™s fire chief, who has served with the Valdosta Fire Department for 30 years, is retiring, the city announced.

Fire Chief Brian Boutwell is set to retire on November 30.

In a Tuesday statement, the city thanked Boutwell for his time with the fire department.

โ€œChief Boutwell has served the department with professionalism and dedication, and the City extends its appreciation for his years of service to the community,โ€ the statement read.

Valdosta Mayor Scott James Matheson shared his thanks for Boutwellโ€™s years of service.

โ€œValdosta has been truly blessed with a fire department led by one of the finest,โ€ he said. โ€œChief Boutwell took this department to new heights, strengthening not only operations but the spirit of the service that defines the VFD.โ€
